Vocational Rehabilitation
(Voc Rehab, Chapter 31) Vocational Rehabilitation is a program of services for service members and veterans with service-connected physical or mental disabilities. Often, these individuals experience limitations in getting and keeping a job as well as in their daily living activities. This program can prepare you for a suitable job, help you get and keep that job, and assist you to become fully productive and independent. Some of the services and benefits include evaluation of your abilities and skills, educational, vocational, and personal counseling, education and training to qualify you for suitable employment, financial assistance while you are training, medical and dental treatment, and employment counseling, career planning, and job placement.

How to Apply
If you are applying for VA Vocational Rehabilitation training for the first time
- Submit a completed Veterans Affairs' Disabled Veterans Application For Vocational Rehabilitation (VA Form 28-1900) to the VA Roanoke Regional Office and await approval and assignment to a counselor.
- After approval by the VA, attend a session with your assigned counselor from Vocational Rehabilitation Services. The counselor will give you any forms that must be completed and returned to the VCU Veterans Affairs Office.
- Complete the VCU Veterans Affairs (VA) Education Assistance application and instructions (pdf).
- Attach a copy of your VCU admission letter to the application.
- Attach a completed Veterans Administration's Authorization and Certification of Entrance or Re-entrance into Rehabilitation and Certification of Status (VA Form 28-1905) to the application (your counselor will give you the form).
- Attach a completed VCU Veterans Educational Benefits Transfer Credits Evaluation form (pdf) to the application.
- Submit the application packet to the VCU Veterans Affairs Office. Your enrollment will be certified and your application packet will be reviewed and forwarded to the Veterans Administration Hospital.
- Provide a copy of VA Form 28-1905 to the bookstore(s), Student Accounting Department, and online@vcu, if you need a computer.
- When you receive your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) and award letter from the Veterans Administration, provide a copy of each to the VCU Veterans Affairs Office.
- Complete the VCU Veterans Affairs (VA) Education Assistance application and instructions (pdf).
- Submit the application to the VCU Veterans Affairs Office. Your enrollment will be certified and your application will be reviewed and forwarded to the Veterans Administration Hospital.
- Contact the VA Roanoke Regional Office to request the transfer of your case files from your previous training facility, college or university, to a new case manager in the Richmond area.
- Upon approval, transfer and assignment to a Richmond area case manager, obtain a VA Form 28-1905 and provide it to the VCU Veterans Affairs Office.
- Complete the VCU Veterans Affairs (VA) Education Assistance application and instructions (pdf).
- Attach a copy of your VCU admission letter to the application.
- Attach a completed VCU Veterans Educational Benefits Transfer Credits Evaluation (pdf) form to the application.
- Submit the application packet to the VCU Veterans Affairs Office. Your enrollment will be certified and your application packet will be reviewed and forwarded to the Veterans Administration Hospital.
