Green Zone

For our student veterans, transitioning into student life is often difficult, particularly those who have recently returned home from active duty and are still transitioning to civilian life overall. Unlike the structured environment of the military, universities like VCU have a wide array of schools, departments and administrative areas that can be difficult to navigate.
The Green Zone program identifies faculty and staff volunteers throughout the university who have received special training and are knowledgeable about student veterans issues and resources. The Green Zone is an initiative to support student veterans that is funded by the Aurora Foundation (http://www.aurora4vets.org) and the Region IV, Virginia Wounded Warrior Program (http://www.wearevirginiaveterans.org/).
The goal of the "Green Zone" is to make VCU a more veteran-helpful university. Participants in the Green Zone program agree to:
- Attend a workshop that provides information and resources related to issues faced by student veterans
- Display the Green Zone sticker outside their office door to let others know they are available to provide support and information about resource for student veterans
- Be a resource to other faculty, staff or students who may have questions about student veteran issues
