Federal Direct Loan Exit Interview Instructions

The U.S. Department of Education (US DOE) is the lender for your Federal Direct (Subsidized and Unsubsidized) Loans and will remain your lender throughout the life of your Federal Direct Loans. While the US DOE Direct Loan Servicing Center oversees your loan account until each loan is paid in full, you are the real loan manager because you are responsible for repaying your loans. As a Federal Direct Loan borrower who is graduating or no longer enrolled at least half time, you will have many decisions to make in the near future, including decisions about managing the repayment of your student loans. The online Exit Interview for Federal Direct Loans is available to help you make these decisions.

The U.S. Department of Education requires that you complete an Exit Interview session for your Federal Direct Loans. In order to complete your Exit Interview for your Direct Loans online, you must have a Personal Identification Number (PIN) issued by the US DOE. If you do not have a PIN, you can request one online (http://www.pin.ed.gov/).

Once you have a PIN, you can complete your Exit Interview online by going to http://www.dlservicer.ed.gov/ and clicking "Exit Counseling" under the Account Management Tab. This session will walk you through the following:

The VCU Office of Financial Aid's Loan Department will receive the results of your participation in the Exit Interview, mark your loan file complete, and contact you if further information is needed.
